Private Garden of Lucy Hardiman #4 of 5 of GWA Diary
For those just joining us, I have been sharing photos/descriptions of the lovely gardens on the GWA conference garden tours last week in Portland, Oregon. You can see the first three posts here: Nancyland, Urban Edibles, Laughing Spirit.
The next garden on our tour was the the lovely home of garden designer, Lucy Hardiman. Lucy is a nationally known writer and owner of Perennial Partners, a local garden design firm. She writes for many publications, including Horticulture magazine.
See the lovely photos below the jump…
Unfortunately, when we arrived at Lucy’s private garden, we had only FIVE minutes to view it because the bus needed to head back to the hotel. So, we did what any garden writer would do…we scurried like mad snapping photos as we went. We had no time to chat with Lucy other than to thank her for letting us come. She was very gracious.
It wasn’t until I got home and looked closely at the photos on my computer that the true genius of the designs could be seen. She is a master.
Lucy loves color…bright, lovely color. She designs her garden beautifully for year round interest and also includes many colorful ornaments throughout. The ornaments acted like exclamation points on her design.
There were whimsical touches all around, such as mini candle chandeliers…
Colorful glass balls in the trees…
Charming birdhouses…
Down low, you could find birdbaths, brightly colored finials and mosaic tiles in the brickwork on the patio.
My favorite unusual thing? Hard to choose…Perhaps, the charming potting bench.
Lucy lives on a corner and in front of her home, she created a nice stone bench for visitors to use. If you look closely, you will see a very small stone heart placed in the center.
Spread the love Lucy…Spread the love!
