LH 31: Checking Canned Food for Spoilage

Welcome to Episode #31 of the Living Homegrown Podcast!

Every time you pull a home-canned jar off the pantry shelf, you should give it a once over to be sure it is still as safe as the day you canned it.

It is an important habit to have.

So in this episode, you learn:

  • The difference between spoilage and botulism
  • What you should never do with a suspicious jar
  • Seven signs that your canned goods have spoiled
  • What we now know about mold that our grandparents didn’t know
  • Best practices when storing your canned goods

Listen in for ALL the details or read the transcript below.

Thank you for this very important info. I am really looking forward to participating in the next Canning Academy. Do you plan on having one over the winter? Thanks.

It won’t be happening until after the first of the year. Unfortunately, I had a death in the family and had to put some things on hold. But we will be diving back in for 2016 and it will be great. As long as you signed up for one of my updates somewhere on this website, you will be notified. 🙂
