Yep. It is true. Most canning jar lids here in America have BPA in the canning lid liner.
What is BPA?
How dangerous is it?
What are our options?
Get the full scoop in my canning post over at Growing A Greener World TV.
(Don't panic, there are alternatives…such as the BPA free canning lids in the photo.)

Thanks for the great article, Theresa! We’d been meaning to search for BPA-free canning lids, but hadn’t done so yet. We have the Wecks jars, but they are so expensive that we can’t afford more than a few of them.
Jesus, is anything safe? Thank-you for the article.
I know, I know Lisa. I feel the same way.
It seems that every time we try to do something “good” for us or the earth, we find out later that there is something wrong with that. Right? Very, very frustrating.
But at least in this case, we can put the danger in perspective and decide what to do. There will be a lot more news on this as more and more people are canning across America.
But I feel your pain. Sometimes I think it might be better not to know anything!
