I have a new blog post up over at the Growing A Greener World website. It is all about making homemade liqueurs. YUM!
We didn't film an episode on this, but don't you think it would be great to make some of these liqueurs and then have a taste testing party?
You know, for research purposes?
Yeah, me too…

Okay, that title had to get your attention – right?
It is the title of a new book I discovered yesterday at the bookstore written by Chuck Sambuchino. It was so funny and cute — I had to buy it.
Here is an excerpt from the the book:
"Are you at risk? If you're reading this book, chances are you're in proximity to garden gnomes (Gnomus hortus) and have made the most important decision of your life: to educate yourself and take a stand against these suburban subversives."
After covering assessing your risk, protecting yourself, defending yourself and applying what you learned, the author even goes into what to do after you have won the war…
"I would be remiss if I did not cover the basics of dead garden gnome removal…"
I found myself actually laughing out loud at some of the photos. It made for a fun (fast read).
And if you are interested in more hilarious info on garden gnomes, check out this tongue-n-cheek video (filmed by dead serious, real-life horties) about how gnomes are "an invasive species". They did such a fabulous job of keeping a straight face.

Check out this 11 year old kid giving a speech at the TED awards – Next Generation. Oh my! He is amazing.
In five minutes, he explains (in very simple terms) what is wrong with our food system and why he has decided to be an organic farmer when he grows up.
Wow!

I found a neat new tool at the Epicurious site: search by state and month, and find what’s fresh in your area!
The tool keeps track of peak-season fruits and veggies for you, and even suggests recipes based on those foods.
Clever! I sure could have used this all summer.
