I don’t know how I forgot to include this beauty in my bloom day post yesterday, but it is too colorful to not show. Check out the colors of one of the hydrangeas.
Last year, this plant had the deepest, bluest flowers. But this year, I did not try to keep it blue and I didn’t add anything to the soil. (My soil is naturally alkaline) The result of my my non-tinkering with the soils is that the flowers are…every color between blue and pink! (Can you see the purple flowers with blue centers in the background? Lovely.)
I think the soil is transitioning from the acid to alkaline levels between blue and pink…hence the weird multicolors on this one plant.
How pretty is that? I love it when Mother Nature gives me a surprise!

What a beautiful photo. I long for lovely hydrangeas and have planted so many never to see the full mature affect. But, I never give up, so when I moved here, I planted another which seems to be doing well.
MNGarden-
Hydrangeas can really be stunning in a landscape. I have my fingers crossed that your new one continues to do well!
That hydrangea is so beautiful. I just love them but have never had good luck. (too much shade I think!) But where I am now has alot of sun and part sun so I have planted a few in different spots to see what works the best. They came back this year and seem to be doing well… at least there are buds on them. I will see how it unfolds. Thanks for showing all your blooms. I have enjoyed reading your blog.
Thanks for your comment Teresa and thanks for visiting. Great name by the way. ;~)
Good luck with your hydrangeas. Be sure to post photos on your lovely blog if they bloom for you!! Can’t wait to see.
These are the colores of hydrangeas that I saw in Ireland mid-September 2008–they were gorgeous. My husband and I took lots of pictures of them. I’ve been searching for the name of these hydrangeas on-line but haven’t been able to find them. Are these in your photograph Endless Summer?
